Billowing Clouds Remember the week of Solar Blasts from AR #30 - the sunspot group that produced a number of large flares as it progressed across the face of the sun ! As this region rolled over the West limb, on July 22nd, CDS spent 24 hours observing it, watching billowing clouds of hot highly ionised plasma speeding into space, accompanied by bright streamers and large wavering loops. The images above are a snapshot taken from a movie of the active region. The temperatures observed range from 30,000 degrees in He I up to 5,000,000 degrees in Fe XVI December 9th 2002: FINAL DATA PRODUCTS Processing of CDS final data products is currently on hold.
