The photosphere (where most of the Sun's light comes from) is 398,000 times brighter than the full moon or at least 1000 times brighter than a patch of clear sky of the same size seen on a sunny day. We are very lucky that the Earth's atmosphere helps to shield us from much of the Sun's harmful radiation.
