One branch of research in solar physics attempts to reproduce the features seen on the Sun using computer models. Starting from physical laws, and the known characteristics of the Sun's atmosphere (temperature, density, magnetic field), a computer program is written to see if we can predict the features we see with satellites like SOHO, Yohkoh and Trace. The movies below show the predictions of some of these computer programs.
