This graph shows how the brightness of the X-ray light (labelled Total Intensity) from a firefly changes with time (measured in hours:minutes). On the intensity scale, 1.0 x 105 means 100,000 counts. Before the firefly lights up a low intensity is measured of about 10,000 counts. A measurement higher than this means the firefly is glowing. At one stage during the firefly's life it gets really bright and then explodes!
