Jude Insley

Job: currently in transit....
Born: Ipswich, 1971

University

I spent eight years at Imperial College, London, where I did my degree, PhD and spent 2 years as a postdoctoral researcher.

What do you do?

I try to find the darkest regions on the Sun, called coronal holes. This isn't exactly easy, but I like a challenge and using the SOHO spacecraft I have the best possible opportunity.

Where have you been?

As a researcher and as a student I've been to quite a few places in the world: San Francisco, Hamburg, New England, Holland and Switzerland. Here is an ice sculpture I saw in New Hampshire, see how cold it gets there!

What do you like to do outside of work?

I love going to the movies, especially sci-fi and action films. I have been known to dance the night away too, and used to compete for my university in ballroom and rock'n'roll dancing. I still enjoy dancing to almost any music.

Who would I most like to meet, living or dead?

Probably Arthur C. Clarke. He has such a vision of the future I'd like to talk to him about where he sees us going in the next 50 years. Things have changed so fast, is it even possible to predict 10 years ahead these days? He thought of communications satellites before we even ventured into space, so if anyone can predict the future, it has to be him!! This is a picture of his first flight in 1927 with his mother taken from the web site: http://www.acclarke.co.uk/index.html, check it out.

and here's something he designed....
