The TRACE telescope can only see a small part of the sun and its inner corona at a time (around one twenty-fifth) so this image was made by combining many separate images. All the bright parts you can see are regions where hot gas (at about one million degrees) is trapped in a magnetic field. The largest bright loops occur above cool sunspots.
