Frame:   Speed: (frames/sec)

This movie made from LASCO C3 images shows that LASCO can see more than just the Sun's corona. Moving across the sky in the background is the Milky Way (our galaxy), seen as a fuzzy band of stars stretching from the bottom to the top of each image. Others stars (little bright points) can also be seen to move across the sky at the same speed as the Milky Way. Also visible is a sungrazing comet, named SOHO-6 (since it was the sixth comet to be discovered using SOHO!). Some of the little bright points on the images do not move with the stars. These are caused by energetic particles, called cosmic rays, hitting the detector of the telescope. As usual the Sun's size and position is marked by the white circle in the centre.
