The "SNOWFLAKES" you see in these images are caused by the LASCO camera being hit by particles from the Sun. They were ejected by a violent event on the Sun. You can see the storm build up and gradually fade as the particles sweep past the Earth (or more correctly, past the SOHO spacecraft.
