What do I do?

I spend my time looking at various aspects of magnetic activity on the Sun, trying to understand how the big increases in X-rays and other wavelengths that we see in solar flares happen. I'm also interested in how the regions that flares usually occur in - active regions - are heated when there aren't any flares, as that could help to explain why the Sun's corona is so much hotter than we expect it to be.

What do i do in my spare time

I spend a lot of time contemplating the prospect of doing something healthy like exercise but usually end up dismissing this in favour of more sedentary pursuits like going to the cinema or meeting friends for food and drink. Although I have been known to make it up the odd hill occasionally.

Travelling

So far I've got to go to Japan and the US several times as well as to France and Greece, where I got to witness Daniel's Greek dancing... And of course not forgetting lots of exotic(?) locations in the UK!

Person you'd most like to meet
Nelson Mandela - a man with the courage of his convictions.
