The Sun's surface is a ``bubbling'' environment where we find little bursts of energy. These are called Blinkers and like some kind of solar disease, there are perhaps 3000 of these over the Sun at any one time.
They are little by solar standards, but as far as the Earth is concerned they are huge! The largest may be as big as the Earth and in just a few minutes they can produce enough power to brighten 200 billion light bulbs!
