This is a description of the CDS planning procedure.
1. Setup
- Login to the master account on solar, where the Y option enables
trusted X11 forwarding (ie; don't need to do SETENV display nonsense);
ssh -Y master@solar.ag.rl.ac.uk
- Start cidl, setup the various paths and invoke the planning tools;
- IDL>use_eof_cat
- IDL>use_eof_data
- IDL>mk_plan
- Add DSN row to timeline plot. Select Operations
→Customise Display Window and enable DSN.
- Invoke Image Tool.
- Display latest EIT and/or MDI images by selecting Private Data
from the Image Tool Image Picker panel. (May need to toggle
"Auto List files" or select "List files" button to populate the list).
- Select required images. If "Auto accept selection" is enabled then
selected images will automatically be displayed.
- When required images are loaded, then go into the pointing
tool panel selected from Tools →Pointing Tool.
-
If no images are found, then see the section
Retrieving the
Latest SOHO/EIT/MDI Images below.
2. Planning
3. Finish
- Make sure the plan has been saved.
- Update the science plans by selecting Operations
→UPDATE SCIENCE Plan with DETAILS Plan.
- Export the plans to an ascii file by selecting Operations
→EXPORT Plans.
- Make final inspection of plans by clicking PREVIEW PLANS
→PREVIEW DETAILED PLANS. Note that the "Dismiss"
button doesn't work! This widget will disappear when you dismiss
the XPORT tool.
- When you're ready press the "EXPORT NOW" button. This will
generate an ascii file containing the plan. The widget tells
you the name of the file that the plan is exported to, and
it will be sent (by default) to the directory;
/eofcs/data/plan/database/export
- Send the exported (ascii file) plan to GSFC EOF as an attachment to an
email to both
- cdsplanner at grace.nascom.nasa.gov
- nelson.cheung-1 at nasa.gov
with a subject line of;
CDS Plan (attached) for Thurs 24-Apr-2013
If you're running on;
- Mac/Linux then use kmail (which is the solar machine's
native email tool). Notice the shortcut when adding the
attachment, it will take you straight to the export
directory
- Windoze, then you need to copy/ftp the plan file over to your local
machine and use Outlook, etc. An alternative means is (under CIDL)
compile and run the procedure
CIDL> .compile /usr/local/html_docs/plans/plans_html
CIDL> plans_html
This will copy all the plan files to the webpage
../plans/plans_index.html
where you can download it from the web.
Make sure to attach the file!!!!!
- Have a coffee break!
- Save regularly
- Take advantage of copying plans
Use an IDL program called "show_synop" to download EIT/MDI FITS files onto
a local directory. Then in "image_picker" navigate to that directory and file
and select.
