Facilities Overview of the complete CDS Ground System d Views of the CDS Engineering Model, located at RAL The Engineering model was used in the testing of electrical subsystems at spacecraft level prior to building the flight instrument. Today it is used to develop and test studies prior to use on the flight instrument; to train people in the operations of CDS and to troubleshoot or test instrument upgrades. Two students being trained on science operations at the RAL facilities The CDS Optical layout shows both the Normal Incidence and Grazing Incidence spectrometers, which are fed solar radiation from different angular segments of a Wolter II grazing incidence telescope. The scan mirror is used to scan different parts of the sun across the slit. From the CDS Operations Management Team in the Space Science & Technology Department at CCLRC Rutherford Appleton Laboratory Site maintained by John Rainnie.
