Global Oscillations at Low Frequencies (GOLF)

The GOLF instrument studies the internal structure of the sun by measuring how the surface of the Sun oscillates. (along with MDI and VIRGO)

GOLF measures the velocity of the surface in the direction of sight - that is, how fast is the surface moving towards or away from the instrument.
