Electromagnetism.
In the last few pages we have learned a few things about electric charges , electric
fields, electric currents and
magnetic fields. Although we considered
electricity (electric charges) and magnetism seperately they are infact just
different features of the same thing. Electricity and electric fields come from
electric charges and magnetic fields are produced when the electric charges
are in motion. Therefore I hope I have shown you that electricity and
magnetism is not two seperate subjects they are infact one called
electromagnetism. One
of the most useful features of electromagnetism was the
ac current generator. Without it many of the things we use today would
not be possible.
Do you know that many people have ac generators on the bicyles !
Yes, some people use an ac generator called a dynamo
on their bicycles for light. When people do this they attach the turbine
of the coil to the wheel of their bicycle. As the wheel rotates this makes
the coil in the magnetic field rotate and an ac current is produced.
The electric current then heats up the filament of
the light bulb and light is produced. The faster the person cycles the more
light they produce. Of course when they stop cycling the coil stops rotating
and the light goes out.
